By: clemshaw. on 14 May 12, 03:22:52 Dude; when you? play, you are focused on a target and swing to a target, when you go to the range, you start thinking of the swing and the focus then wanes from the target and starts defaulting to the ball; when you release to the ball instead of releasing out to a target, EVERYTHING CHANGES!!! Not one bit Mike; ... By: clemshaw. on 04 May 12, 18:30:20 Not one bit Mike; as soon as you are ready to work the ball, you are ready for this; I get my beginners? working the draw and fade in the 3 rd or 4th lesson as this is part of the whole deal of playing golf. As soon as they try to hit the ball straight, they can't release the club and this major manipulation is one of the main reasons golfers can't evolve the way they want to; Jack said it over 30 years ago; "stop trying to hit the ball straight! "

Great tip amigo. ... By: tomganley53. on 24 Apr 12, 05:13:00 Great tip amigo. It also helps with two of my worse backswing? flaws: Swaying back off the ball and the annoying habit of watching the clubhead go back (Those two things might be connected). There is also an analogy here for those knowlegeable in the operation of firearms. It's the concept of sight picture. The hat is the back site and the ball is the front site. You have to understand how to use those or you'll never consistently hit the target. Do you think that's true in the golf swing too?

By: clemshaw. on 30 Mar 12, 15:26:56 This just means that you are releasing the juice at the ball instead of through the ball; you need to polish the feel of what releasing deep past the ball to a target is and really get into it; see my "Throwing the club", "Farm Hammer",? So we can let the arms fall, just as we let the kid on the swing rise up, then hover, and then start down. And that's the moment when? we can give it some UMPH with the extra push.

If you try the leg together drill and let the arms hang freely, you can quickly get a sense of how? easy it is to use a squat motion to generate power, and you can pretty quickly get the hang of topping the ball, or nipping the grass, or nipping the dirt etc. It doesn't require supernatural coordination.

I've always been taught to "keep the spine angle" and to avoid an up and down motion with the head. If you look at (say) a video of Bobby Jones' swing, his head is amazingly stable.? You obviously have superior coordination. I wonder if that is why the up-down head can work for you.

On my practice club which I swing in the bedroom - especially now that it's snowing here in Seattle I use the Taylormade Speed Sleeve - a very cool accessory. As I said above I don't want the illusion of a heavier swingweight I actually want the increased momentum a heavier object by the laws of physics must produce. It helps keep me on line and by employing Shawn's swing strategy I'm hitting more fairways and greens than ever.?
A lot of players ... By: golfdoconline. on 14 Jan 12, 21:17:25 A lot of players use heavier? clubs Norman, Hogan, Trevino etc. If you want a few extra yards it's best that they land in the fairway. The best way I've found to do that is to follow Shawn Clements teachings. Get a target and swing through toward that target. My distance has improved as has my accuracy. I'm having a lot of fun playing golf letter my central nervous system do the work as Shawn teaches so well.

I think everyone wants to emulate Ben Hogan's? swing which is evidenced by quite a few of your videos. This video suggests an up, down, up motion. However, if you look at Ben Hogan's (even Tiger's) swing it is clearly down, down and up. I believe the initial "down" motion comes from an additional flexion at the waist (ie tush pushes out). Useful to hear your thoughts on this

For the centrifucal pump, I found my own way to explain it and feel it could maybe help others.
In the downswing, imagine yourself with both feet on a big weight scale. Let's you weight 200, it shows 200. Now, think about pumping those numbers at 400 for a splits second, with both feet.
You're body will know when to do it? if you keep your focus to the target at the same time.

Maybe I can answer ... By: Tourswing. on 14 Dec 11, 15:03:37 Maybe I can answer this for Shawn. At address the rake head is 90 degrees to the back of the left hand. At the top of the swing, it's the same relationship. Imagine you had a long nail through the palm of the left hand, same relationship at the top. In a similar way the leading edge of the club is in line with the back of the? left hand (more or less dependent on how strong the grip is). It's a bit of a brain burner, but just think about it and it'll make sense!

I couldn't help but notice when you were swinging that rake, on the profile view, that the fingers of the rake were pointing directly downward. Yet they started pointing upward before your swung.
Is that right? Is there not something visually/technically wrong with that image? If that were your driver? head, where would the face be pointing at the top of your swing?

I do have a question about the tempos you have? chosen. Do you think that we have individual tempos for each of our clubs? In other words, your 9-iron was at 52 bpm, where as I found 58 bpm to be better suited for 9-iron...or am I missing the point of the exercise?

Hi Shawn, i have ... By: diabelez. on 04 Nov 11, 10:06:26 Hi Shawn, i have enjoyed many of your videos during this summer when i improved my golf a lot, in my first season ever, i am 42.
But i have to correct your obvious mistake here: clubhead speed should be at max, right where it hits the ball. Its physics. It shouldnt be out there, towards the target. Its completely wrong, think man! read some physics. swing the club in 1 hand from above as a pendulum. do the swirping action with the? shaft, reverse the club and listen to the sound.

Thank you Shawn for this video. My putting has 'gone off? the boil' at the moment, so I will work through your video the next time I'm out on the course. I can undersand where I'm going wrong and will try to put it right. Thanks again.

Shawn, another legendary lesson. You're always so clear and concise and use great thought provoking words and analogies.? I have a grass whip on order. Thanks again

Enjoy the video a lot. I typically drain all of my putts within 6ft. However, in the last week I seem to have hit a slump. I missed about 4 par putts from inside 4 ft the other day and this has happened to me in several rounds in the last 10 days or so. Do golfers go through a putting slump the same way baseball players go through hitting slumps? I? don't want to change my putting stoke but I'm wondering if it's time to make changes or if I should just be patient and ride this out?

Watched this video after losing confidence with my putting.? So many tips in one video. Focusing on the correct muscles, hanging from the shoulders and the longer follow through really helped. Putting at the weekend was a joy. Many thanks @clemshaw

This distance is? very important; the key here is to feel that once you are set up, that the putt is no longer under your control; you have already lined up, set-up and now it is all about letting momentum put the ball into the hole for you; no not steer it!! Shawn
