But it has several other good songs as well. I do however agree that Bowie did fail to utilize many amazing Guitarists to their full potential. Overall though I believe you are letting a case of SRV worship overwhelm musical sense? here.

Without SRV, no one ... By: LivinWorstNightmare. on 29 Apr 12, 14:27:41 Without SRV, no one would have even bothered with Let's Dance. Earl Slick is a good guitar player, but seriously, listen to Texas Flood and Crossfire. No way in hell he? could do the things Stevie Ray did. The solos on China Girl, the title track, and this song alone were the only good things on Let's Dance. The things SRV was doing without Bowie prove how he poorly he failed to utilize his full talents on this record. The guy was a Blues genius and he wasted him on disco garbage.

Well, to each his ... By: SpaceOddity87. on 28 Feb 12, 01:41:47 Well, to each his own. I mean Vaughn was undeniably a talented guitarist, but beyond that, I find the arrangements to be very bland. I mean, I? listened to Let's Dance for years, and like the album itself, this song didn't make much impression on me. Struck me as very much of its time and a shadow of what once was. When I saw Inglourious Basterds, it featured the Moroder version, and it blew me away. This version isn't bad, but I guess it's not my thing.
No, I have no ... By: karlmoles65. on 27 Feb 12, 23:52:07 No, I have no problems with the fact that Moroder created the song. But I take a lot of exception to your incorrect statement that he removed the subtleties to make it like everything else. A: It's full of subtleties and B> It doesn't sound a damn thing like much of anything else. I've never heard another song quite like it frankly. And yes I have, I'm also a? huge fan of Earl Slick.
Nobody's blindly ... By: karlmoles65. on 27 Feb 12, 22:23:02 Nobody's blindly lumping anything around here, except you. Whitebread Rock? You're fucking serious with that shit? And I know you ragged on (Imo) the greatest song Bowie ever did in favor of some slick and soulless Disco. I don't really have a problem with Moroder, but your? comment was arrogant. That whole Whitebread Rock thing made me laugh. You seem to now have amended your stance into a much more reasonable position that I can have some respect for however.
Moroder's version ... By: SpaceOddity87. on 27 Feb 12, 22:14:39 Moroder's version can hardly be called disco anyway, but I really think you're undermining his importance to the song considering that he composed and arranged the original piece and brought Bowie in later. When Bowie covered it for Let's Dance, he removed all of the subtleties of the original, replacing them with something that just sounded like everything else on? the radio. Bowie liked disco, too. Ever hear Young Americans? Or Golden Years?
Anyone who's going ... By: SpaceOddity87. on 27 Feb 12, 22:06:24 Anyone who's going to blindly lump all of one genre of music into the garbage bin is just ignorant. You don't know anything about my taste. I like Rock AND Blues AND Disco, because they all have music that's of worth. They all have music that's trash, too, but every genre of music has something that's of worth. Moroder was a genius at composing pop melodies, as was? Bowie, and even more he was a pioneer in terms of new technology.
I will tell you ... By: karlmoles65. on 27 Feb 12, 19:00:33 I will tell you plain, anyone who'd choose Disco over Rock and Blues has really, really, really bad taste in music. Just so you know. ?

Don't know how anyone could think this version is better. Completely loses the atmosphere of the original and replaces it with white-bread rock. I? love Bowie, but? at this point Moroder had much better sensibilities.

Otherwise really cool, thanx! It really annoys me when you see this subject discussed and revisionists claim that Sab and Priest were more or less the only metal bands before the late 70s. By: karlmoles65. on 29 Apr 12, 15:57:06
Not only is this a utterly fantastic song in every respect including (But CERTAINLY NOT limited to) the solo. But it has several other good songs as well. I do however agree that Bowie did fail to utilize many amazing Guitarists to their full potential. Overall though I believe you are letting a case of SRV worship overwhelm musical sense? here.
By: karlmoles65. on 29 Apr 12, 15:54:37
I agree that Blues Rock is important. I disagree Disco is garbage, it;s good muci in a lot of cases. I agree SRV was a genius guitarist. I strongly disagree with your demeaning of Earl Slick, who is also a genius Guitarist. I think you should heard his 70s Earl Slick Band albums before you judge. Without SRV, no one would have even bothered with Let's Dance.

By: karlmoles65. on 28 Feb 12, 18:59:23
Well if everyone was the same the world would? be boring. As the trite old saying goes, it's all good. At least we disagree over someone awesome like Bowie and not stupid like Bieber or something eh.
By: SpaceOddity87. on 28 Feb 12, 01:41:47
Well, to each his own.
By: karlmoles65. on 27 Feb 12, 23:52:07
No, I have no problems with the fact that Moroder created the song.
By: karlmoles65. on 27 Feb 12, 22:23:02
Nobody's blindly lumping anything around here, except you.
By: SpaceOddity87. on 27 Feb 12, 22:14:39
Moroder's version can hardly be called disco anyway, but I really think you're undermining his importance to the song considering that he composed and arranged the original piece and brought Bowie in later. When Bowie covered it for Let's Dance, he removed all of the subtleties of the original, replacing them with something that just sounded like everything else on? the radio. Bowie liked disco, too. Ever hear Young Americans? Or Golden Years?
By: SpaceOddity87. on 27 Feb 12, 22:06:24
Anyone who's going to blindly lump all of one genre of music into the garbage bin is just ignorant.
By: karlmoles65. on 27 Feb 12, 19:00:33
I will tell you plain, anyone who'd choose Disco over Rock and Blues has really, really, really bad taste in music. Just so you know. ?
By: karlmoles65. on 27 Feb 12, 18:59:16
Bloated as your shitty taste in music, right??
By: SpaceOddity87. on 27 Feb 12, 09:10:15
You do realize that this was Moroder's song and he just let Bowie write lyrics and sing, right? Don't know how anyone could think this version is better. Completely loses the atmosphere of the original and replaces it with white-bread rock. I? love Bowie, but? at this point Moroder had much better sensibilities.
