I have written much about that move in my blog. Learning to use large muscles athletically to control the the golf swing is key to all golf shots. Unwinding from ground up, is the key to consistency. This video is? 4 years old and is about chipping. Many still like to chip and this helps them. Read my earlier response below to blueterrace about hips.

By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 02 Jan 11, 06:10:05 Easy, but you need to add one thing... start the downswing using your hips? and keep unwinding and let your turn lead the handle through impact. Works great!! Use the mass of your body turn to bring the ball out (not your hands) and you will be much more consistent. Keep the shaft inline with your front arm...maintain the club face and just turn. As long as you do not let your hands open the club face... the ball comes right out, at the target and at the distance you perceive.

This is a great ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 16 Dec 10, 00:21:49 This is a great question and there is a simple answer. The shoulders can only do a little chip shot without the face closing or flipping. As there is a need for more distance or more height, THE HIPS NEED TO START THE DOWNSWING AND KEEP TURNING TO FACE THE TARGET WHILE YOUR HANDS ARE PASSIVE AND JUST HOLD THE SHAPE! Let the large muscles create the power. This is more of? a pitch shot. It is the most reliable. Use your shoulders to push back, then hips to turn through. NO FLIP

Many golfers bend over down to the ball with their weight more on their toes. This is out of balance. Sit down like a quarterback, like an athlete in balance.
If you stand ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 12 Oct 11, 14:10:30 If you stand naturally, your? upper body is supported by the lower or centered. As an athlete gets in a ready position like quarterback, they bend their knees and sit allowing their chest to bend down being counter balanced by their back end, still centered. Golfers bend down to the ball with mostly straight legs and now have weight hanging out over their toes (not good). So I say to keep your chest in your knees as staying balanced (front to back) as you sit down and drop your chest.

Great. Remember ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 24 Oct 11, 15:45:58 Great. Remember that this process is an unwinding from ground up. Like throwing a ball. The knees move the hips, move the shoulders completely to face the target. The arms & club go for a ride. The elbows are pulled? down back in front of the body via the hips unwinding, as everything keeps turning. Hands are passive. This will send a signal to the large muscles that they control the swing.
I think that ... By: MMmm97vO. on 24 Oct 11, 15:10:07 I think that without realizing it I've become conditioned to think that the swing is finished when I hear the club head/ ball contact. So stopped rotating. Have an idea I picked up from reading about traditional story telling dance. I'm going to think of the whole downswing as a dance movement that sends the message "good swing."? The messaged/movement is only accomplished if I swing to a complete finish so I'll concentrate at arriving at that finish rather than listening for contact.

By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 06 May 11, 20:52:31 Well, I own the domain grippressure com (a future website) because I believe that changing grip pressure during the swing, is the #1 problem. Period! What I mean is, I discovered years ago that, taking? the hands out of the swing (maintain even constant grip pressure), allows the Large Muscles to take over and control the golf swing. It becomes more athletic. I hit 3-400 hundred shots a day for a month to learn to control my grip pressure during the swing. WOW! Square, Solid!

At setup, the ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 06 May 11, 15:09:30 At setup, the elbows point at the hips,? then as you turn thru impact, they again point at the hips (tho the hips are slightly turned and still unwinding). One misconception you hear is, "Clear your hips" I disagree, you want to use your hips for power thru impact. The hips are slightly ahead and turning, but have not cleared. Your front shoulder, front hip, hands and club head, essentially form a straight line at impact, just inside your front foot, as you are turning!

By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 05 May 11, 18:48:28 Yes, some practice, but more, programming confidence, in that using your? turn (not hands) is way more reliable than trying to time flipping your hands at the ball. By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 30 Oct 10, 23:56:31 I don't like to use the "plane" word because every club and setup will have its own plane needed... but it is kind of one plane in that the large shoulder muscles control the arms and club? on the takeaway and backswing. THE ARMS AND HANDS NEVER LIFT OR HELP. So that is somewhat of a one plane. 2nd question... the arms do not swing themselves. If you've setup ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 29 Mar 12, 18:08:19 If you've setup properly, this move is just winding your shoulders around your spine. Just push the arms and club straight back and up. Push your front shoulder under your chin. There are some players that have a couple of the elements I teach. None that have all yet. Dustin Johnson has the club correct? at the top, but does not know about turning yet. Stricker knows about turning. He's closer to how I teach. I don't teach or worry about swing plane because it is taken care of when you use your shoulders to carry your arms and club to the top. Every club has a different plane due to different lengths, but your shoulders will always windup and unwind around your spine for a reliable, repeatable swing.

I used to teach the traditional (I learned from Hogan's book) leading edge of the club face on the plane but 2 things dramatically changed this. First I realized, Hogan would fix this problem? with supination just before impact. Second, realizing with Large Muscles controlling the arms and club that the club face would naturally stay square and hinge on its? own square if the hands are passive. If you keep your hands passive (grip pressure constant), it works perfectly.

You are probably ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 05 Mar 12, 18:04:00 You are probably having? mixed results because of ball position. If the ball is too far back, you'll block it. Move it up just inside the front foot and learn to rotate through impact. Now, if the ball starts going left, you're flipping with your hands or your rotation stopped and the arms and club passed your body turn. Keep the hands passive and use your body turn to pull your arms back down in front of you as you keep turning all the way.

I know the main reason this kind of club face has been frowned upon is, the ball will go left when you don't turn. With a Traditional golf swing, the turn stops half way and the hands and arms past the body turn closing the face, but if you keep turning you get to have a square club face during the entire swing. If the ball does go left, it also reminds you that you didn't turn (or flipped). Thanks for the validation. Ross

Ross do all Clubs ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 18 Oct 09, 13:55:58 Ross do all Clubs Hang under the Shoulders?
Thank you. Yes, pretty much but not contrived, natural. If the arms (with elbows towards each other) and club (with shaft inline with front arm) HANG down or on top of your chest (driver) as a template or package, the shoulders can feel how much weight is there and what will be needed to push back. The shoulder turn must push this template straight back and up (never inside) and never allow? the arms to take over and lift on their own.
I don't teach to ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 02 Jul 09, 00:59:58 I don't teach to move or shift weight? or any of those misconceptions on the backswing... so hence, there is no need to slide back on the downswing. During the backswing there is tension on the inside of the back foot (restricting) while the shoulders push the club back. This is winding from top down. Then the shoulder turn eventually moves the hips into place. THIS IS THE CORRECT SEQUENCE that traditional instruction has wrong. On the downswing the hips start first unwinding from ground up.
If you move back in ... By: secrettogolf. on 01 Jul 09, 05:28:09 If you move back in the backswing there must be? weight shifted there, how do you move it back without a lateral move prior to your hip turn, without hitting fat or coming over the top.I'm curious more than anything your way seems much more simplistic and I would love to convert. Also what are the back body parts doing this whole time.

Great question. ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 18 Mar 12, 15:06:35 Great question. Why is there offset on irons? Hummm. A big part of the golf swing is about angles and path. So club makers added compensations (offset) to "help" you. This did not fix the problem, just offset it to produce a straighter mishit. Just changing the shaft of the club at setup, your ball position and angle of attack will do the? same thing (without offsets). To answer your question, it works best with no offset. The Key - The shaft must lead the club face at impact!

You pull hook for ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 08 Oct 11, 12:01:30 You pull hook for only 2 reasons. 1, your arms and club are passing your body rotation too soon,? or your body turn is stopping too soon and the arms and club have to pass. 2,? you are flipping or hitting with your hands. This closes the face. Answer, use your hips to pull your elbows back down in front as you keep turning. Look at the video here called the "Ross Move" it is really working great for my students.

What i think is happening is that my arms are turning with my body to much(staying out? front) and at impact I am coming slightly outside in with my hip turn and forcing my hands to release. Please help.
Where you finish ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 25 Sep 11, 01:27:13 Where you finish would directly relate to the amount of speed generated in the turn. If you turn very fast and hard, the shoulders will actually pass the point your mentioned. One thing on a softer shot with less speed the shoulders still are pulled around by the body rotation to a complete finish, knees touching and totally up on the back toe. This would mean the hips had released completely (good thing). If not, the arms will pass the body too soon and pull? the shot.
Well, I was taught ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 25 Sep 11, 01:20:54 Well, I was taught the? same thing, but found that not shifting your weight and restricting the lower body creates much more power and makes it very easy to hit the ball solid while turning through to the finish (not hitting with the hands). Knowing this and teaching thousands of lessons over the last 20 years, easily convinced me that this is a much more repeatable, athletic, consistent golf swing. You be your own judge ... Ross

By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 05 Jun 11, 14:10:15 I do at my site... but, you don't need a video... just put the ball out there... get your front foot and club head in line... then unwind as hard as you like!! If you start the downswing with your hips and? keep turning, and (don't flip), you will kill the ball down the middle!... every time. It is almost too easy once your hands are out of the golf swing. This takes practice... Move Less ... Get Good!... Ross
Strong grip only ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 05 Jun 11, 14:03:46 Strong grip only causes hooks when you flip or quit turning. AND, you will have to flip when you quit turning... Stronger is easier ... By: DUPLESSISGOLF. on 05 Jun 11, 13:37:46 Stronger is easier to align shaft with the? front arm. Now, setup for driver is key! Club head and front toe are in line 4" behind the ball. FORGET ABOUT THE BALL. This creates an ascending or upward angle of attack that hits the ball up and carries farther and rolls. You keep TURNING as you move the ball. If the ball pulls or hooks, it is because you stopped turning too soon and let your arms and club passed your body. Keep turning and Keep Hands quiet during the entire swing.

Do you use a strong or neutral grip?? Does this work for the woods and driver and do I need to adjust my set up when applying this swing to my woods and driver??
Thanks so much i am already seeing greater distance and power in my shots!!
