The greatest ... By: NFitalianGuy. on 11 May 12, 12:58:35 The greatest compliment that any singer, including her daughters can do for Judy Garland, is to never sing this song. There never was a singer who could pull it off. When they do sing it, everyone is comparing them in tha backs of their minds to Judy Garland. When her family and friends turned away at the end, her fans never did. Her talent still marvels new generations of fans. Singers today cheat their fans by not singing live at their concerts or? they sound really bad vocally because they use tech to improve their singing. Judy is raw talent and she "wows" new listeners because they've never heard real singing. RIP Judy. :)

That's how she got to those deeply emotional aspects in some of her performances. She was a "natural" method actress...it just came out right! Others may study "the method" for years and not hold a candle to this little waif! No, there'll never be another like Judy! You should see all her films on the big screen, as they were meant to be. You can see here that Mickey was a pretty good dancer. It's sad to hear that his family's stealing from him. I remember he declared bankruptcy in the '70s or early '80s. The guy's gotta be about 90 now, and he didn't look too well the last time I saw him on TV. His family should let the man live out? his remaining time in peace.

Pure greatest! ... By: HandwhistlerBen. on 29 Jun 11, 00:58:00 Pure greatest! Mickey's family recently? has been stealing his awards and trying to get at his money. He spoke to a Senate committee about helping the Elderly protect what belongs to them as well as be treated kindly as they age and need assistance. Judy was pushed much too hard by the studio as a teen and fame consumed her. Shirley Temple got out in her early twenties. Mickey had a rocky life with marriages and booze.

Incidentally, in response to the question as? to why Judy was and remains a "gay icon", the topic is an extensive and multifaceted one. All you kids have ... By: capie44. on 16 Sep 11, 16:01:10 All you kids have to do is tone-down the arrogance (in you AND around you) and the vulgarity. You will be surprised how much your appreciation of your life will go up.
You don't have to eliminate it? around you--nor all quite within you--but "tone-it-down" is good enough. The more you remove arrogance from around you, the more you will not feel the alienation you (don't know you) are complaining about. And vulgarity will give way to self-(and others) respect.Try it! At the very end, Judy starts to kiss Jack, as she used to kiss her guests, but suddenly pulls back, remembering CBS's scolding about being too kissy-touchy. So she shakes his hand instead. It seemed very odd, and something only the CBS execs would understand, but she did it. There's no? question that the network bigshots drove Judy nuts, that whatever she did displeased them.

Poor Monroe and ... By: mistressofaminer. on 30 Jun 11, 01:45:43 Poor Monroe and Garland, such talented and fragile creatures, victims of fame and stardom functioning on methylamphetamines and crashing with barbiturates, seconal and alcohol. The unlimited budget of CBS offered Judy a whopping 24M. for a weekly variety? show. i remembered this as a kid, she would often do the finale dressed as a clown and it was kind of sad.
While visiting ... By: mistressofaminer. on 30 Jun 11, 01:25:19 While visiting Marilyn Monroe's crypt I turned around and noticed Mel Torme's grave stone a few feet away. I catch his daughter Daisy, co-hosting on PBS, and she a spitten' image? of her father. Without Mel Torme', no "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" and then we wouldn't have Nat King Cole with us at christmastime.

The last note was ... By: damens. on 19 Jun 11, 16:56:41 The last note was not real - it would be virtually impossible (though it is claimed Farinelli could sometimes do 1 minute phrases without? breathing, this is a claim not a fact and Garland was not - to the best of our collective knowledge - a castrato). But thank you for sharing your (wildly inaccurate) "knowledge" of the technique of circular breathing.

Wow! I thought I'd seen all of Astaire's best stuff, but I'd somehow missed this. Talk about a routine that doesn't waste one bit of film.? Thanks for posting.

You won't see this on "Dancing With the Stars." Unfortunately, our society and "give it to me now" culture rewards mediocrity.?

By: Grlsinger47. on 17 May 12, 02:39:38
After watching this video several times, and seeing how coordinated he was and how quickly he moved at age 47, I can only imagine how quick his reflexes were when he was younger. His kids probably could never out run him either. Judging by the way he handles that cane,? you can almost be certain that nobody EVER misbehaved in the Astaire house hold.
