That notch is the cut for an ambidextrous safety. If your grips are snug you can whack the grip frame with a plastic or wooden screwdriver handle to jar them loose. Using the finger toggle is better than gripping the grip to activate the light. Not switching from a lighter to a heavier grip to activate the light.
