www.ted.com Sebastian Thrun helped build Google's amazing driverless car, powered by a very personal quest to save lives and reduce traffic accidents. Jawdropping video shows the DARPA Challenge-winning car motoring through busy city traffic with no one behind the wheel, and dramatic test drive footage from TED2011 demonstrates how fast the thing can really go.

Or a hacker taking? over the drive system....

Although not covered in this video, but in other places: This technology is merely a supplement to human drivers for the forseeable future so in cases like this the (human) driver would be able to take over. I'm pretty positive once they get to a point that the car could drive itself without a human even being there, they'd cover these? corner cases fairly well.

this system has so far clocked over 180 000miles i think its proved it itself great invention just hope its not exspensive then? there is no meaning of building this coz not many people would be able to afford this car make it affordable

If this? becomes the norm in america i can see a lot of cross country truckers losing their jobs, machines can drive constantly without need for sleep.

What happens? when Google, Walmart and Amazon have all our money? How do the local economies survive, where there are no other businesses left? I see this as another step back for society... we need a new way of distributing wealth... the destruction of local jobs and buiness is going to have a major impact soon. We need to focus technology on redistributing wealth as a priority... not focus on centralising power to the super rich any further...
By: PlanetUbla. on 10 May 12, 02:50:35
50 jobs created - a billion lost... there is a serious problem with your equations. The beauty of small companies grabbing monies is that that? money is distributed across the country... it is not focused in the pockets of Wall Street, Banks and Walmarts super rich alone... I would rather have a thousand millionaires living local to me, then one or two in some remote location of Walmart HQ... people need to wake up and smell the ashes...

Hey Google Driverless Car, how do you know the speed limit of the? road? Wii you drive 35 mph on a highway? LOL.
By: RufftaMan. on 09 May 12, 03:41:49
i hope you're joking. he even said it in the video: the car already drove over 140'000 miles on real roads, with real other drivers, with pedestrians and everything. did you even watch the video? this is undoubtfully going to become normal in the not too distant future. the only reason? to drive by hand will be for fun, not for commutes. this will not only make travelling by car safer but also faster since the number one reason for congestion on highways is human error in driving.
By: soandsoitgoes. on 09 May 12, 02:13:37
This is a joke. This will only work where there are no other human drivers and humans in the road. Also, how do the muggers hold up and car nap these units? Keep em in europe. Google, find a way for all to have respective jobs,? then you got soemthing going on. What a waste of moolah, as bad as studying all the other crap that does no good for the every day working stiff just trying to find a way to get thru life.

You European fags are always so jealous of the? success of others.
By: vaaheeed. on 08 May 12, 22:54:43
Looove the idea , if the car can park itself that means everyone has a Shoffer and if technology can be implimented on trucks, what a world would that be. if they are solar power,? wow forget about computer generation wow
By: salvadoraugustus. on 08 May 12, 21:35:09
i dont like how he talk..hes like a fake preacher who wants ur money ...he talk like ur best friend that loves u as a fag....just because? ur money
By: dkkoala1. on 08 May 12, 20:46:38
hmm what exactly do you mean by that? who loses their job on this? the paramedics? the car industri? the answer is actually no one. if you implimentet this technologi into cars it would actually CREATE more jobs. programers, maintainance? crews and you would not lose as high a percentage of the work force every year as you do now. and just so you know, small corporations is also "money grabbing" everything isn't the big corporations or the governments fault :)
By: tchoco. on 08 May 12, 19:48:49
I'm afraid for computer virusses inflitrating the? cars causing mayhem
By: TheBoringProphet. on 08 May 12, 17:50:16
What if there's road maintenance with a guy standing with? the Stop/Slow sign to control one lane traffic while the other is being worked on. Can the car read the sign and know when to go, and then drive into the oncoming traffic lane to around the construction?
By: SebaVolc. on 08 May 12, 17:36:38
That leaves out everything but reasearch and? human social interaction (government, police, laws, paid human services and entertainment). Teaching and learning can be automated (and effectivised) as well.
By: mortenrobinson. on 08 May 12, 16:05:35
What's the? fun in that??
