Johnny Horton-Whispering Pines
Posted by: johnsonchusc
Video duration: 174 seconds
Global video hits: 159957
"Whispering Pines" was one of songs sung by Johnny Horton in the late 50s and early 60s. Johnny Horton was born as John Gale Horton in Los Angeles on 30-April-1925 and unfortunately, died in a car accident on 05-November-1960 at the age of 35. I should say he was one of the best country song crooners in the 60's. Why must talented singers died so young?

Narrative of airchair flying at Torrey Pines, San Diego, California, on December 22, 2009. Floyd Fronius flies the Red Goat off the cliff, up into the lift, and lands by swooping down onto the backside of the hill. Ultralight sailplane flying is described (this is my first narrative video). It was a cold, windy day at the flying site. Website m-sandlin.info

prefer the other version ;)?
By: raggedsoldiers. on 02 Feb 12, 13:02:42
I think this goes back to the 1940's Long John Baldry does a great version closer to the original on here as Black Girl in the pines. I first heard this sung in 1964 in Glasgow by a local band. It was introduced as Black Girl,,, not very pc these days I suppose,? hence the multitude of names

As old as I have become, I am still amazed that people who claim to enjoy music can be as close-minded as some whose opinions are voiced on these pages.? When did God die and appoint you as judge?
By: dmorton45. on 22 Dec 11, 01:17:40
All I will say is that these brothers were well respected and liked by? many. And no you don't have to like it. I don't like rap music but I don't call it shit either. Someone must like it because it's still around.
By: Grisbi6. on 22 Dec 11, 00:46:54
Sorry, Chirfu---I misread names on comments, and I dissed you by mistake. I should? have focused on Dunokuba instead. My apologies.
By: TheMarumellow. on 18 Dec 11, 08:09:36
Cobain obviously liked this type of music if he did? a cover of it. Too bad a lot of his fans can't learn to appreciate the originals like he obviously did. Eh, free country I reckon, no point in fighting over differing musical taste.
By: Grisbi6. on 14 Dec 11, 22:08:29
Sorry to? hear that listeners like chirfu have no appreciation for anything different. To me, this version is the best.
By: fathermulcahyisrad. on 08 Dec 11, 04:19:26
I find this to be a? very interesting arrangement. It is certainly the most rewarding bluegrass version I have come across. :)
By: dunokuba. on 25 Nov 11, 20:50:26
I'm calling it shit because I don't like the? way it sounds. To me the music itself outweighs the talent of the individuals performing it.
By: chirfu. on 25 Nov 11, 14:56:06
@dunokuba,? I listen to ALL types of music. When I hear talent in it's artist, it is music! No matter the label we put on it. Music is music. There are no new ways of making music. Different scales are used, instruments or beats but all music contains those three things no matter how you look at it. The talent into what is being heard is what makes it shit or not. These folks are talented as you mentioned. So calling it shit is far from the truth.
By: dunokuba. on 24 Nov 11, 23:32:27
I think this music is shit. I don't doubt that what they do takes a lot of talent. I just don't like the way it? sounds. Would "douchbaggery" be involved when describing me? How the fuck does not liking something make someone a douchebag?
By: Grisbi6. on 13 Nov 11, 02:33:44
Reading? through these comments, I find it interesting and sad that music fans are so rigid and so invested of their favorite performers that they can't understand the appeal of other musicians doing the same material. Your loss. All of these versions of the song are great!
By: chirfu. on 02 Sep 11, 18:39:57
The louvins blew every ones mind with their tight, TIGHT harmonies in the same manner Cobain blew the music scene up with his amazing sound. Interpretation of anything done with a true heart/soul will be stellar. For those of you below saying the louvins are shit don't understand what is involved in singing. And to? quote a word from below, "douchbaggery" is most definitely involved for those who think this is crap. This brother duet was and still is the best at what they did!
By: meinLiebsterFeind. on 31 Aug 11, 23:19:53
Too bad Cobain isn't around? any more, he probably would have taken you out first, for being so wack.
