What scope would you recommend for 100 yard to 1000? I purchased a Savage 11/111 Long range hunter, need a good scope to go with it. I hunt close range? and wanna start shooting long range for target plinking. would the Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x 40mm-Mil-Dot to much or will this work good for both purposes? Or do you have another recommendation? My limit is $1000.Cal is (.300 win mag) For the Scope rings should i buy Burris zee rings or is there a better set of rings for my particular rifle
By: GunNutAmendmentII. on 12 May 12, 22:32:51
DoesFront parallax adjustment mean this is a Front focal plane scope? or are they two different things?? im looking at getting a Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x 40mm - Mil-Dot will this give me a problem when reading Mils for range estimation? on high/low power will they read the same?
By: jonesman71. on 11 May 12, 16:30:13
this is amazing . everything right on, i wrote this down and with out any prior scope training went out and zero my scope and calculated distances and figured out how to raise and lower the scope? to hit dead on
By: 786ni. on 10 May 12, 23:27:41
Is each mil always 3.5 moa or was he giving an example? Im just starting to learn this by? the way.

I wrote MIL, but? I MEANT MOA...
By: easttxduckhunter. on 02 May 12, 20:35:28
Ok, I think I'm on track now. I'm new to this type of scope but I'm learning. my? particular rifle, a .204 Ruger, at 400 yards, the drop is 13.1" (according to the ballistics chart, mind you). I tried that calculation and came up with 3.25mil to compensate...3mil=12"@ 400yds with 1.1" left over. not factoring in the .1, I'm left with one inch, which is where I got the .25mil. or am I wrong? If I'm correct, then I understand it and won't bother you anymore. Thanks for the reply!
By: TheNSSF. on 02 May 12, 18:27:12
Correct, in our example we used an average of 57" from ground to shoulder to create? our field card. But you can use any known size in inches and the formula to estimate distance.
By: jomboneable. on 24 Apr 12, 17:02:31
I have to? thanks Ryan Cleckner for his outstanding teaching style!
By: TeletubbiesRcute. on 24 Apr 12, 05:06:03
There is? a very simple way to use metrics. mil dots work for any system. One mil = 1 meter at 1000 meters. It's very practical. For example, if your target measures 1.75m and it covers 2 mils in your scope, then D=size/mils then you have 1750/2=875 meters of distance. 1750 because it is simpler to just use size in millimeters than to divide metric size by 100 then multiply by 1000. Check the wiki if you don't understand. Remember distance=(size in mm)/(number of mils)
By: muzzzafuzzza. on 22 Apr 12, 00:10:49
Outstanding video. So many videos out there that explain how to use? mil dots are hard to understand, but you made this really easy to understand the equations and how you got the numbers in the equations. Thanks for the hard work.
By: nubian1911. on 19 Apr 12, 09:28:11
Ryan, thanks for the videos. You offer an expensive lesson for free through this medium. Keep up the good work.?
By: 90466893. on 16 Apr 12, 21:35:48
average human size target is 1.7m.. that's 5.57ft. No need to know the max height, just a rough estimation. Example: (5.57*1000)/2 = 2785 ft = 928.33 yds. Darn, wish there is a way to calculate in metrics since the ACOG marks are usually in meters. btw, i never fired snipers so basics of sniping is? weak for me. T_T sorry if i offended you
By: szepadam5. on 14 Apr 12, 17:38:35
USE METRIC SYSTEM!!! :D sorry? caps.
By: ClecknerNSSF. on 09 Apr 12, 02:09:08
Yes, MRAD is short for? milliradian.
By: ClecknerNSSF. on 09 Apr 12, 02:08:46
If you want to use mils to estimate range, you have to know the height (or at least make a good guess at it). Mils work for estimating range by knowing how big an object of a certain size should appear at? a certain distance - if you don't know the size, you won't know the distance with mils.
By: ClecknerNSSF. on 09 Apr 12, 02:07:02
Yep.?
By: louie000007. on 09 Apr 12, 00:49:57
Is? this the same as MRAD?
By: GunNutAmendmentII. on 08 Apr 12, 22:31:14
So what if you dont know the Inches/cm/feet or w.e of the target you're shooting? (Deer/moose) are you suppose to know how tall you're targets is before going out hunting? For example my father has his hunting licence (big? and small game) but he has no clue on how tall roughly (from foot to shoulder) the deer/moose are?
