But the thickness issue in your #2 is not accurate, the density of the laminate (More or less Melamine in the? core) has more to do with quality then the thickness. an 11 mm board could be a low density FBC and therefore dent easier then an 8 mm that is a High density FBC. The thickness of the board is more a marketing gimic then an actual benefit. If you use a good pad then that will give you a good quiet sound. The sink is mounted to the bottom of the transition ring leaving a 1/2" brown line between the top and the sink & also a reveal below the ring that has to be cleaned often or gets gunked up.
