herzog just? bitch slapped the jungle

I don't why but Herzog, even when he speaks of the deepest, most serious things, always makes me laugh. I bet in pure German he's terrifying (if you understand it)? but in English he'd make a great stand-up comic. He's a genius and I know that's true because I read it somewhere.

It's too bad he didn't know at the time that the entire Amazon is a man? made orchard.

And what if men, and the distance their conscious is supposed to offer them from the primary mechanisms of life, what if humans are Nature's hopeful and crazy attempt at transcending its own roots, creating a creature that can actually choose to avoid causing destruction and pain,? and living in peace and harmony ! Now I know the game might never be won but it just goes to show : there's some purpose there, that could be about going from base to elevated.
By: 1480mathias. on 19 Apr 12, 13:13:23
Don't get me wrong, I completely understand your point. And it's funny, the thing you say about the antelope is an? example I use quite often about this particular subject but it is still a one sided view of things. Why is life so plural, why is it fragmented into this cannibalistic struggle for life, different species having to rip each other apart to remain ! Don't you know pain is not an aim, but there must be a sense of sacrifice, a tribute for anything to be incarnated and out in the open.
By: 1480mathias. on 19 Apr 12, 13:04:33
Why would you antagonize Nature ? Like saying that one individual, because he hurt himself by accident, has no concerns for his own well being...If the chick falls out of the nest and cracks its skull open, it doesn't mean Nature has no concerns for it, it is an accident, a risk that is taken for anything to be. Nothing's for free, life demands a tribute, a sacrifice, a risk. Nature actually tries its best? to give us means preventing ourselves from pain and disorder.

Aesthetically, from afar and out of context the jungle with its intense geography, forest and wildlife is very beautiful. But once one really comes to experience the jungle one realizes that it is an ugly, directionless and painful place. One finds oneself staring at the horizon? as it is the only semblance of order in the whole place. One must appreciate it despite this lack of beauty as it symbolizes the strife and disorder inherent in all life which is horrible but necessary for beauty
By: Icix1. on 21 Mar 12, 00:41:24
he's right,? nature and existence itself fucking sucks. we're all murderers
By: deadinapark. on 17 Mar 12, 10:55:53
adaptation, survival, how does this not relate to suffering? if suffering doesn't lead to death then it has a? (sometimes rude) tendency to evolve into survival, into stronger defense. into a more treasured life, regardless of strife. i think nature has many beautiful, glorious moments, however i can understand why it might seem apathetic, but only that, not maliciously merciless.it is so alien yet so familiar, isn't that why it seems so vile, yet so beautiful?
By: MisterKauffman. on 15 Mar 12, 07:34:44
My priority is? suffering, which nature doesn't care about. Nature cares (if that's even the right word) about adaption and survival. It doesn't care about the chick that falls out of the nest and cracks its skull open, or the humans having to live in a cold, dark cave in a puddle of their own filth. When nature isn't merciless, it's apathetic. Which of the two is a worse is a whole different conundrum.

ahahaha oh that? herzog!

Tornados? If those people were in caves, not manmade homes they'd have been safe. I ask whether malice is not part of instinct for beast or beast. I mean man or beast, or is there a difference? Besides that lions are easier to avoid once they've sighted you.? Lose your overprivileged guppy fear of whats outside your fish bowl. Connecting blindness and excess or naivete with love of nature is ironic to the very nature of nature. and on the subject of the video, Herzog is great.

I dunno, I take him as a bit of a philosopher, all the better for? not having been schooled in it...
By: shasta8sisyphus. on 13 Mar 12, 22:00:47
or you're one-sided...this is just a singular video clip, not Herzog's full philosophy. and so many people take it so damn seriously. it's funny. he's been experiencing hell making his film in that jungle; he's pushed himself and his actors to the limit. of course he sounds a bit hyperbolic, but perhaps that hyperbole is more true than any of us realize.? there are infinite jungles of mind, culture, economy, et cetera that can be overwhelming when faced with their sheer immensity.

dream boat?
By: MisterKauffman. on 05 Mar 12, 20:10:41
Why is everyone attacking Herzog just because? he doesn't have his head buried in the sand about what nature really is? Lose the romantic feel-good overprivileged-New-Ager rose-colored glasses for a second, and think about the lion that tears the antelope's flesh off while it's still alive, not based on malice, but instinct. Or, the tornado in the American South that ruined countless lives just a few days ago. Think about something REAL, and then tell me how charming nature is.

I think that Werner is actualy a very funny guy and that his tongue may be a little in his cheek here. Anyone doubting this should watch incident at loch Ness, Werner is bright enough to take the piss? out of himself without it demeriting his work. Personally I always watch this when I want cheering up, its classic!

i do love a good herzog speech. He is somewhat of a cynic though. Even in this video he mentions 'singing birds screeching in pain.' This is a very negative outlook simply because its obvious birds do not? make their calls repeatedly out of pain. Where he mentions rotting and death he neglects the cycle that also creates life. He is not a realist, he is one-sided.
