Ironically, many of Darwin's family and descendants DID endorse eugenics and other racist theories, as Darwin himself came within a hairsbreadth of doing so in "The Descent of Man", where he wrongly applied his own theory of natural selection to human political history. No question evolution happens, but? natural selection DID provide a unique opportunity for those who wished to make their racist beliefs national policy. And they exploited it mercilessly.

Since I have lived, the theory of evolution has changed to fit the 'facts that support it'. Of course details change ! Thats how science works, it would be really bad if evolution would not? change if we have new evidence that parts of it are not completely correct !!!

Well, the brain is astonishingly able to repair itself ! There is a case of someone who had nearly 50% of his brain shot away, and, after years of training, was able to have a nearly normal life again ^^ The brain is much more complex then a computer for example. I hope that "project blue brain" will give us a better understanding of the human brain. Basically they want to make a 1:1 copy of a human brain with a computer,? neuron by neuron with all the connections each neuron has.Google it !!!

Thats an insult to bronze age people, more like a bunch of stone age myths?
By: MrRichardQED. on 26 May 12, 10:31:00
If it could, then with the? correct knowledge we should be able to produce thought in a test tube. The important bit here is "with the correct knowledge". What we have learned so far about the brain is not all that much. But we are trying to understand it better, look for example into "project blue brain" (just google it). They are trying to produce an artificial brain to understand it better. They are yet far away from the goal, but i am positive they will reach it one day !!!
By: MrRichardQED. on 26 May 12, 10:28:01
You have forgotten quite a few phases of matter, which shows yet again how little you know about science ! Yet you have the audacity to claim you would know better then our experts do !!! If your knowledge of science where at least have as big as your? arrogance you would know that evolution is correct, sadly its not ^^
By: MrRichardQED. on 26 May 12, 10:24:01
If you want creationism to be part of the curriculum you have to do research and? convince the scientific community. You people have enough money for this, but instead you demand to be recognized without research, but thats NOT how it works ! You have to go the same way as every other theory: 1.do your research 2. publish it 3. have it peer reviewed 4. convince the scientific community bit by bit As for the evidence, almost all experts disagree with you,and they know better then you every will !!!
By: MrRichardQED. on 26 May 12, 10:16:58
creationists would be excluded from teaching positions? is a lie ! But when they teach they have to teach the theories the curriculum demands, and cannot just make up their own curriculum !!! If they make up their own curriculum they are not doing what they are paid for, and will get fired ! That has nothing to do with them being creationists, they are fired because they are not doing their job !!! 4. In every science class we teach the theories that most scientists agree on,period !!! -->
By: MrRichardQED. on 26 May 12, 10:13:10
attacks AND managed to convince more and more scientists with its research. THAT´s how evolution got where it is today. EVERY new theory has it difficult in the beginning, that´s how the weak theories are discovered and discarded, and only the really good theories survive ! If you think you have a better theory then evolution you will have to go the same way then every other theory out there had to go before it was? accepted ! You can´t just demand preferential treatment !!! 3. Claiming -->
By: MrRichardQED. on 26 May 12, 10:09:33
Virtually all money provided? for experimentation and? research is provided to proponents of evolution, 1. Creationists invest many millions into propaganda, so they have the money to do research, they just decide to invest it in something else. 2. Evolution gets that much research funds due to the amount of evidence it presents. This wasnt always the case ! When it came out most people where against it and ready to do almost everything to bury evolution. But evolution withstood all those -->

you have? to love good old christian logic.
By: BenkaiDebussy. on 25 May 12, 16:48:26
It would literally be impossible to do work in certain fields, like genetics, without understanding the mechanisms by which evolution takes place. The fact that you haven't read anything about the evidence supporting evolution doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Look at the wiki for? "evolution" or "genetics" or something, it isn't hard.
By: BenkaiDebussy. on 25 May 12, 16:43:57
How can a human being be so dense that? they can read what you just wrote and think "mm yes, this is reasonable."? If I wrote a historical fiction, every single non-madman in my book would have really existed according to this logic.
By: BenkaiDebussy. on 25 May 12, 16:41:39
Actually there? are other states of matter, like plasma.
By: BenkaiDebussy. on 25 May 12, 16:40:14
The fact that people can't think (or having problems with thinking) when their brains are damaged is pretty solid evidence that thought is just the result of neurons firing in the brain. Brain damage can also change a person's personality. Consciousness is the direct? result of your brain's activity.
By: BenkaiDebussy. on 25 May 12, 16:33:40
I work in genetics/genomics and can assure you that evolution? is not faith-based. We can directly observe the mechanisms by which evolution takes place. If someone thinks that evolution isn't supported by evidence, it's only due to their own ignorance. If someone came into an astronomy class and claimed that the Earth doesn't revolve around the sun, they wouldn't be taken seriously. The same is true in biology for people who think evolution didn't/doesn't take place.

I love this video. I'm personally humbled by the idea that in a big broad sense, I could be even closer? to my doggies than I thought ! :D
By: scrustle. on 25 May 12, 11:04:45
The theory of evolution is the most beautiful part of the natural sciences to me. It so wonderfully and simply explains the entire diversity of all known life. It completely staggers me that people really do not accept it. How can anyone deny such a wonderful and obviously? true thing? It's not hard to understand. I've understood it well since I was a very small child and I started getting interested in dinosaurs, as many young children too.
By: MrRichardQED. on 25 May 12, 08:50:52
yes you are talking about a specific book, the bible, in? quite a few posts
