According to "The History of Rancho Los Encinos" "The rancheros and their vaqueros (who were almost all California Indians) would gather the? cattle once a year in a rodeo, and then slaughter hundreds of them. There was far more meat than they could eat, so most of the beef was left to be eaten by the local wildlife, while the rancheros saved the hides and tallow.

As written by Guadalepe Vallejo in 1840 "The Indian vaqueros, who lived much of the time on the more distant cattle ranges,? were a wild set of men. I remember one of them, named Martin, who was stationed in Amador Valley and became a leader of the hill vaqueros, who were very different from the vaqueros of the large valley near the Missions"

Before you start calling people stupid, you should know what the hell you are talking about, who the hell you are talking too and then you? should learn how to spell it.
By: gufimike. on 26 Apr 12, 22:02:21

Yeah...not so much. Those weren't Mexicans in old California. They were S-P-A-N-I-A-R-D-S who taught the I-N-D-I-A-N (i.e...NOT? Mexican) vaqueros. You can try an rewrite histoy all you want...doesn't make it so

California? = Mexico
By: robgriz72. on 26 Apr 12, 20:08:01
Which goes to show that you don't know anything about cowboys. Cowboys are men that work cattle. PERIOD. Thats what they represent.? Men taking care of cows. If they represent something else where you live, that's your problem, not the cowboys. And cowboys very seldom represent what you see in movies.
By: robgriz72. on 26 Apr 12, 20:04:30
That's absolutely false. The original cowboys of this country were indian Vaqueros that worked on the mission ranches of Alto California at the same time the Mexican Vaquero's were developing their skills in Sonora. Both the California Vaquero and the Mexican Vaquero have? their roots based in Spain.
By: robgriz72. on 26 Apr 12, 19:55:52
Then you could say the? Mexicans stole it from the Spanish.
By: robgriz72. on 26 Apr 12, 19:49:34
fcdjca=wrong. Don't know where you get? your facts, but you may want to check 'em. There are PLENTY of cowboys in this country of all races. The first cowboys in this country were the Indian vaqueros that were recruited by the padres on the mission ranchos of Alto California at the same time the Mexican vaqueros were establishing their skills in Mexico. People who talk about stuff, should at least have a clue about what they are talking about.

These must be dude ranches cause I grew? up in Eastern Oregon and we sure didn't dress like a desert cowboy, and we were buckaroos!
By: robgriz72. on 11 Apr 12, 20:03:41
First off, cowboys are people...period. Some may be racist some may not. There are Indian cowboys, black? cowboys and Mexican cowboys. But saying all cowboys are racist is disengenuous, at best. Second the cowboys in this country were born on the mission ranches of Alto-California at the same time that the Mexican cowboys were tossing maguey ropes at the descendents of cattle that Cortez brought. Those Californios were mainly Indian and Spanish blood so to say Cowboy=Mexican is to ignore history.

...Please,National Geografic...Is possible to know the name of the beginning music ? Thank you !?
By: MsHillsdale. on 09 Apr 12, 02:46:08
I disagree. Back when people started raising cattle in the U.S. there were Anglos, Hispanics, Indians, and... blacks! Still are.I know -- I'm challenging your preconceived notion, but? it's the truth.
By: MsHillsdale. on 09 Apr 12, 02:43:02
Yes! You may want to start at a feedlot because those are great places to learn about cattle health issues and cattle handling since you are around so many. Otherwise, just look at livestock journal ads and give it a shot. You will see things that others don't even know exists. You will get to know nature as few others get to. It's a great life. Even if you don't make? it your career, it will change you forever.

And who that hell cares who's smart who's retarded about cowboys??? that's not the point of this video! In addition, i wish youtube adminstrator were having aware of this user, lppoqqI, she has? been attacking and offensing almost everybody and everywhere in youtube.

Cowboys? = Mexicans
By: robinji1. on 28 Jan 12, 04:56:16
Well.. thats not how you guys see others.. for you Every South Asian is a 7-11 cashier, every latino is a lazy gardner, every asian knows some sort of? martial arts, etc ... So defend EVERY stereotype if you're at it.. if not, you're just being hypocritical by defending the accused racists.. and yes 90% is a good guess on how many of them are racists.
