Alpine ftw!?
By: 24HzICE. on 09 Jan 12, 09:54:41
I cannot say for sure but if the phone has USB connectivity then I would expect it to work... probably. The CDE-123R has been tested working with 2 Android phones - the Samsung Galaxy S running 2.2 Froyo and an HTC Desire running 2.1 Eclair (these were run by Adam at Talk Audio,? so a nod of appreciation in Mr Rayner's direction). The Samsung had to be manually switched to Mass Storage mode but worked fine. I suggest you check your phone in-store with the Alpine unit.

so will it work with an Android phone as long as it's in USB mode??
By: jeremiahka10. on 03 Jan 12, 04:30:33
exactly what I? was thinking ! LOL!
By: 24HzICE. on 05 Dec 11, 11:03:28
So... short answer... it's not down to the Alpine unit, this? is a 'feature' built into the iPhone and iPod to ensure? that only licensed products can be fully utilised with them.
By: 24HzICE. on 05 Dec 11, 11:02:28
Yes, I have to be honest I missed that section as it's on the? CD manual and not the quick guide. The Alpine does allow you switch between controlling the iPhone/iPod from the iPhone or from the head unit. iPod/iPhone to USB interface cable should work ok. The Alpine FullSpeed cable claims better performance (I've not tested it) and interfaces via a multipin connector NOT USB. I guess it would be the best option, or you can use the rear USB to give a more hidden OEM install.

Thank you for your reply. :) After reading the owner's manual, i found that there is a setting on the CDE-123R which allows me to switch between controlling the music via the headunit itself or from the iPhone.? I will try this out later. I will probably invest in an Alpine FullSpeed cable for iPod/iPhone, and make something that looks more OEM inside my car. Is this the kind of cable you are referring to?

Being a? Brit I've no idea who Phil is but obviously he looks a bit like me, poor lad. But I wish I had his money... I'm guessing :-)

The Apple multipin connectors, incidentally, are only available to licenced Apple equipment manufacturers - they keep very strict? control on who has access. The early iPods didn't have such strict firmware control and you could connect them into speaker docks and still operate them from the iPod's controls. Every licensed product has to be sent to Apple before being licensed and they stipulate that they must now lock and will only play, as you described, from start to finish.
By: 24HzICE. on 05 Dec 11, 10:24:54
Hi. I'll have to split up my answer because of the character limitation. Apple's iPod and iPhone incorporate firmware that locks? the operation of the player's controls when a) it's attached via its multipin connector to a 'Made for iPod' or 'Works with iPhone' product such as a speaker dock, usually forcing you to control it via the speaker dock, or b) when it's connected to a non-licensed product (which it knows from the iPod connector).

I own one of these, great player, but I was wondering if you know any way to control the music from an iPhone when connected via USB? When I connected an iPhone, it just "locked" the screen and started playing from the start of my list. I know I could use the? Aux. input, but I want to use the DAC in the player... Should there be a way to do this?

Very useful review. I am sold. Thank you.?

The model I reviewed (CDE-123R) has no option for IR remote and there is nothing about that on P10 of my manual (it talks about MIX Random Play function on P10). But I notice that Alpine use the model code Ri (for example CDE-117Ri in UK market) to signify a unit with remote control, and it seems they do? a CDE-123Ri in some markets. So that probably does have IR remote and is different to the UK/Euro version I reviewed. The version I reviewed has steering wheel factory interface option.
By: ichgebgas. on 11 Oct 11, 02:40:23
Are you sure that this device has? no facility for IR remote control? In the manual on page 10 it is written that is controllable by IR.

By: 24HzICE. on 22 Jun 11, 19:00:38
It doesn't have the facility for iR remote but is compatible with Alpine's steering? wheel remote control interface option.
By: VideoUploaderr. on 22 Jun 11, 17:58:54
can you use? ir remote for this ?

By: 24HzICE. on 06 May 11, 09:01:43
I do not think it is something you are doing wrong. Almost sure there is some technical problem with one of? the items or the cable. You need to get the shop where you bought the CDE-123R, or an Alpine dealer, to check it for you. Do you have a friend with an iPhone and different connecting cable? If yes, try connecting the different items. If you are using the USB extension cable Alpine gave in the box, don't use it, just use the iPhone-to-USB cable. It may show where the problem is.

Excuse me. But the music stopped not long after s ... When I connect my iPhone. And after it reconnected. It say "USB rear" ; and it reconnects again. I am desempared . Good? day and thank you again.
By: Rouxloubac. on 05 May 11, 08:29:13
Thank you for your answer! So for "USB rear" j ai to favorite source (FAV) and it does not cut. Apparently it works but I don t have tried long enough. But this problem comes from the iPhone .... Yet the iPod from the iPhone? never posed a problem when it is not connected. Tanks!
By: 24HzICE. on 04 May 11, 11:51:06
Sorry my French isn't good enough to make a reply, but there must be an issue? with the connection or with one of the products - obviously this cutting out is not normal and I didn't have this problem. Check with your dealer or maybe talk to tech support at Alpine France.
