My humble opinion - this is the? best golf video or instruction of all time once you know the basics. Repeat 100 times per day for two years and you will be a player.

A friend of mine recently asked me if I'd rather have Ben Hogan's golf swing or Frank Sinatra's singing voice. I chose both but unfortunately I now look? like Marty Feldman. ?

I don't believe that I'm projecting. I used body release because I didn't want to say CP release, push release or any of the terms that people use for that style of motion. Nelson, Snead, and Hogan all had swings that used a delivery path that went inside and exited to the left --- Opposed to a Phil Mickelson swing that has an out to the? right delivery path. You can snap your hands in any release style.

Actually, that _did_ come off as a bit over-reverent. I was sorta kidding. I just thought the "if you don't mind" thing was funny--and not only funny, but a really endearing sort of throwback to politeness, a contrast to an era? of "attitude golf" with the Woodses and so forth.

So, so right about 60 yards and in. I'm no Tiger fan, but it is true that at his best he was one of the best putters in history. I never thought I'd see anybody who? could give Jack a run for his ability not to three-putt and to make just about every four- and five-footer for an entire tournament, but Woods did. And Snead swore Hogan was a _great_ putter in his prime, unlike the image most people had of him toward the end of his great career.
By: emncaity. on 16 Apr 12, 17:59:51
To be fair, Nelson's stunning career was a short one. The truth is, almost every great player who lasted over decades went through at least some degree of change in his swing (Snead is a notable example to the contrary). But for the most part, the very best didn't completely change their entire concept of the swing. Nicklaus, for example, made some adjustments in 1980 while still holding to his original fundamentals, and then readjusted a few years later? (before the '86 Masters).

You're projecting your own idea of body release onto players who talked regularly about swinging their arms and snapping their hands with a definite release. It's important not to overread the movement? of "the body" (the torso, mainly) as driving rather than supporting the action (often misstated as "following" the action). I think guys like Grout and Nicklaus had this about right: It's really a matter of all parts working in a coordinated manner.
By: emncaity. on 16 Apr 12, 17:52:15
Something went wrong with that? request. Kind of like that "Lord, please make one hand like the other" prayer...
By: emncaity. on 16 Apr 12, 17:51:20
Yeah, maybe that'd be more effective. I just thought it? was funny..."if you don't mind..."
By: emomagica. on 16 Apr 12, 14:07:54
I agree that Nelson's swing is more natural to perform. Amazingly so, Nelson, Hogan, and Snead all used the same kind of body release? through the swing. I'm more of a Jack style golfer, but I deeply admire the body release of those players.

A woman, know more than 5'1", walked up to Hogan on the practice range once and asked him if he had any advice for someone her size trying to play golf. He said, "Ma'am, look at me. (Pause) Now tell me what you see." "A very handsome golfer," she replied. He smiled and said, "Yes, true. But I am not? much bigger than you. Now allow me to show you something..." He teed up a ball and pounded it to the back of the range. "Never let anyone tell you you're too small. NEVER quit!"
