A simple technique that someone shared with me is the following. Take the yearly salary that you should be making. You can find this by googling "AIGA Salary Survey" or your role eg. Developer. And divide it by 12. Example if you want to make $50,000 per year (AND you are designing and coding a website yourself then) it is $4,166.66 per month. If you estimate that? it takes you 1 month to do a website then add 50% or $2,083.00 to the $4,166.66 and you got your estimate. Does that help?

This is a HUGE question. And yes an episode is due. I will do it. BUT to help you NOW - this is what Jeff Dachis (my old boss) told me. 1. "The Graphic Designer's Guide to Estimating & Budgeting" 2. Graphic Artists Guild Handbook: Pricing & Ethical Guidelines ? Neither of these are for tech - but they offer ranges for websites.

I know that is somewhat of a difficult question as it is? somewhat subjective and will depend on the freelancers skills, speed, if he has a team etc. But if you could please break it down as best you can I think that would make for an amazing episode.

Even more interesting I think is if you would compare freelance work and pricing to that of agency work and pricing. What life is like in as technical terms as possible as a freelancer compared to working for an agency. Are there some guidelines or some kind of worksheet a freelancer could go through to price projects as scientifically as possible? I would like to hear a lot basically about how as a newbie? freelancer I could get an idea of how to price potential clients.

I have to say episode 2 is still one of my favorites. In that episode you talked about project management and scope and touched a little bit on pricing a project and how easy it is to go wrong when doing so. I think it would make a great episode for you to dedicate toward explaining how an agency goes about their pricing of a project can you really unpack "scope" and? what exactly it entails in as hard of a science as possible?
