"My kid was best in the class" "I'm a better mother than most people".? Therefore we treat like as a game and not an experience, and if you spend your whole life playing a game you need a way to win. Its not so much 'is there a point to life' as 'what is the prize'? We like the idea winning heaven, winning 'good citizen', winning 'top job', so we give those things value.

You can still enjoy life without belief in an afterlife! The thought that "this is it" use to scare me too, but once I came to terms with it I can truthfully say that? I'm much happier and content. You may never come to the same conclusion I did but if you do I think youll find the initial fear goes away. Its a great feeling knowing this is your one & only life & its yours and no one elses
